Why Track Your Blood Pressure?
Regular blood pressure monitoring is one of the most important things you can do for your cardiovascular health. By tracking your readings over time, you can identify patterns, detect early signs of hypertension, and provide your doctor with valuable data for better diagnosis and treatment decisions.
The American Heart Association recommends that adults with normal blood pressure check their readings at least once a year, while those with elevated readings or risk factors should monitor more frequently — possibly daily.
Tips for Accurate Readings
- Measure at the same time each day, ideally morning and evening
- Sit quietly for 5 minutes before taking a measurement
- Avoid caffeine, exercise, and smoking for 30 minutes before measuring
- Keep your arm supported at heart level during the reading
- Take 2-3 readings one minute apart and record the average
